A batch of young talented students from the school’s Food Entrepreneurship and Culinary Art department will work hand in hand with the crew of Mads Lange restaurant to create a bespoke five-course menu of international cuisine in support of Capella Ubud’s community initiative “English for a Brighter Future”.
“Getting a first-hand experience of implementing their cooking skills and knowledge in a fully operational kitchen is an eye-opening opportunity that excites the students,” says coach Nyoman Sukadana, founder of Elizabeth International Hotel Management School.
Capella Ubud, Bali’s Culinary Director, Matt McCool, commented, “The spirit of sharing has brought us together. It is a great pleasure for us to be welcoming the young cooks to run our kitchen and restaurant side by side with us. We look forward to joining hands in this fundraising event to support English classes for elementary school students in Keliki, the home village of our beautiful tented camp.”
Capella Hotels & Resorts understands that education and knowledge throughout their hotels, and the communities they are in, are key to delivering transformative travel and making meaningful connections. This is why the brand aims to educate not only colleagues of the Capella family, but also local communities.
To support the local community, Capella Ubud’s “English for a Brighter Future” initiative offers three months of English classes to local children and youth in its neighbouring Keliki village – in exchange for collections of discarded plastic bottles from the children.
Proceeds from the Restaurant Takeover will be donated to double the number of hours of English classes provided in four elementary schools. Ketut, one of the students enrolled in the programme, shared his enthusiasm:“‘I am very happy I have the opportunity to learn English! I am sure I will need this when I grow up to find a good job and support my family.”
